Doris Cicely Long (1914-2019), also known as “Daring Doris,” became the world’s oldest abseiler when she completed 11 descents of Portsmouth’s Spinnaker Tower in England with the last being at the age of 101 years old in 2015. The tower is 170m (560 feet).
Doris first abseiled at the age of 85 and used her spotlight to raise funds for Rowans Hospice in Purbrook. In total, she completed 16 abseils.
She was married to her husband, Sidney, who died in 2007.
